
Smoky Mezcal Citrus Punch
Drawing inspiration from the vibrant spirit of Mérida, Mexico, where mezcal reigns supreme, this Smoky Mezcal Citrus Punch captures the essence of my travels and the bold flavors of the region. This batch recipe is perfect for entertaining, combining the smoky allure of mezcal with the zesty brightness of citrus and the spicy kick of Tajín.
Ingredients:
- 750 ml bottle of mezcal
- 4 cups pineapple juice
- 2 cups grapefruit juice
- 1/2 cup lime juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1/4 cup agave syrup (adjust to taste)
- 2 teaspoons Angostura bitters
- Tajín seasoning (for rimming the glasses)
- Pineapple slices and grapefruit wedges (for garnish)
- Ice cubes
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Glasses:
- Spread Tajín seasoning on a small plate.
- Wet the rim of each glass with a lime wedge and dip into the Tajín to coat.
2. Mix the Punch:
- In a large pitcher, combine the mezcal, pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and agave syrup.
- Add the Angostura bitters and stir well to integrate all the flavors.
3. Chill:
- Refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the punch to chill thoroughly.
4. Serve:
- Fill rimmed glasses with ice cubes.
- Pour the chilled mezcal punch over the ice.
- Garnish with slices of pineapple and wedges of grapefruit.
